Fab Fair was concieved 7 years ago as a response to a craft
fair I was helping to jury where 50 fabulous jewellery designers
vied for 5 spots in a Christmas craft fair. 45 went home unfortunately
feeling a bit defeated. The talent pool for jewellery and accessory
designers in Vancouver was exploding and there was no venue of their
own to showcase their work, especially not for new designers starting out.
Now 6 years running Fab Fair showcases designers that are established,
emerging and new. The criteria is a quality of craftsmanship , that the
work be unique in design, designed and produced locally and that the
show reflects as a whole the diverse styles that are available in the
marketplace. An annual cash scholarship was created 4years ago awarding
a jewellery student at VCC's Jewellery Art and Design program. The
winner also receives an opportunity to show their work at the Winter event.
